BRTC Library Director Retires After 6 Years of Service

Library Director Mark Warnick has retired from 91�첥 after 6 years of service.

“He’s leaving behind a legacy of service, kindness, and leadership that we will definitely miss,” Library Specialist Brittany Milligan said. “We greatly appreciate all he has done for us and we wish him a well-earned and happy retirement.”

Warnick was recognized at a retirement reception and at an end-of-the-year celebration for BRTC faculty and staff. He received a plaque to recognize his commitment to BRTC.

BRTC Business Instructor Retires After 12 Years of Service

Business Instructor Susan Shanlever has retired from 91�첥 (BRTC) after 12 years of service.

“It’s hard to imagine the department without Susan around,” a fellow coworker said. “She has been someone I could always count on for a good conversation. Her presence and sense of humor will definitely be missed.”

Shanlever was recognized at a retirement reception and at an end-of-the-year celebration for BRTC faculty and staff. She received a plaque and her choice of a bench or rocking chair to recognize her commitment to BRTC.

BRTC Graduates First Leadership Program Cohort

During the 2025-2026 academic year, 91�첥 (BRTC) held its first leadership program for faculty and staff members.

The program was built and implemented by Julie Edington, Executive Director of Human Resources, and the President’s Cabinet members. It was designed to strengthen institutional knowledge, develop emerging leaders, and enhance cross-departmental collaboration. The participants engaged in eight sessions over a nine-month period. The sessions covered accreditation, budgeting, compliance, student affairs, academic affairs, emergency preparedness, workforce training, and institutional advancement.

“Our first BRTC Leadership cohort went exceptionally well, Edington said. “By investing in our team today, we are trying to actively prepare for tomorrow by building a stronger, more resilient BRTC.”

In order to graduate the program, participants were required to attend several campus meetings, a legislative session in Little Rock, and an Arkansas Higher Education Coordinating Board meeting. They also had several tours, including BRTC’s Paragould campus location, the G.I.N. in Paragould, and the State Capitol.

“The Leadership Program gave me a greater appreciation for the many departments, services, and partnerships that make our college such a valuable resource for students and communities,” Graduate Candy Taylor said.

The group was also invited to attend Memorandum of Understanding signings between BRTC and Williams Baptist University, and BRTC and Crowley’s Ridge College. They were also required to assist the Institutional Advancement department with either the Annual Golf Tournament or the Donor Appreciation Reception.

“I feel more prepared for leadership now,” Graduate Brittany Milligan said. “Now I better understand who to go to and what to ask when I need something.”

The cohort graduated May 15 at an end-of-year celebration. They received a plaque to recognize the time and effort they put into the program. The graduates were Bridgette Branson, Adult Education Instructor; Jody Callahan, Workforce Education Development Coordinator; Brittany Milligan, Library Director; Dr. Zachary Singleton, Academic Advisor; Candy Taylor, DOL Project Director; and Johnathan White, Student Affairs Administrative Specialist.

The second cohort is scheduled to begin in September of 2026.

BRTC Director of Nursing Retires After 17 Years of Service

Director of Nursing Tonya Hankins has retired from 91�첥 after 17 years of service.

“Tonya is always calm in the storm,” a fellow coworker said. “She handles situations with grace, compassion, and integrity. Despite many program changes, illness, floods, and storms – she faces everyday head-on and always does what is best for the program and learners.”

BRTC Math Instructor Retires After 22 Years of Service

Math Instructor Daphne Perkins has retired from 91�첥 (BRTC) after 22 years of service.

“Daphne has been a steady and thoughtful presence in our department, and her impact goes well beyond the classroom,” Travis Harris, math instructor, said. “She brought consistency, a strong commitment to students, and a leadership style that helped keep things grounded.”

BRTC Announces Spring 2026 President’s and Dean’s List

91�첥 (BRTC) is pleased to announce the students who have been named to the President’s and Dean’s Lists for the Spring semester of 2026.

To be eligible for the President’s List, a student must be enrolled in at least 12 college credit hours excluding developmental courses, not be on any type of academic probation, and must have a minimum grade point average of 4.0.

BRTC 2026 Summer Hours Announced

91�첥 (BRTC) locations will begin following its summer hours on the week of May 20. All locations will be open Monday – Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The college will be closed on Fridays.

BRTC Foundation Member Josh Conlee Serves as Panelist at Arkansas Rural Development Conference

91�첥 (BRTC) Foundation member and St. Bernards Healthcare’s Senior Vice President of Strategic Services Josh Conlee served as a panelist in the opening session of the Arkansas Rural Development Conference.

Along with several other healthcare professionals, Conlee spoke on rural health care, how it is changing, and why rural care matters to the community.

The opening session was moderated by Lynn Hawkins, Chair of the Arkansas Rural Development Commission.

This year’s conference was held at the Embassy Suites and Red Wolf Convention Center in Jonesboro. The three-day conference draws in over 600 attendees, including local, state, and federal leaders. The Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC) says participants “have the opportunity to learn more about the many programs and services available through AEDC that assist rural communities and their leaders with development, planning, and revitalization efforts.”

BRTC Foundation Member Honorable Alex Bigger Named to 40 Under 40

91�첥 (BRTC) Foundation member and Arkansas District Judge Alex Bigger has been named to Arkansas Business’s 40 Under 40 list which recognizes intriguing business and political leaders under 40-years-old.

According to Arkansas Business, the 40 Under 40 list is comprised of rising young Arkansas professionals across a variety of industries and professions. They will be honored at a luncheon on June 3 at the Statehouse Convention Center in downtown Little Rock. Each year, Arkansas Business receives more than 400 reader nominations for 40 Under 40 candidates. A group of internal judges selects the best of the best.

BRTC to Hold Paraprofessional and Support Staff Informational Session

On Tuesday, June 2, 91�첥 (BRTC) will be holding an informational session for paraprofessionals and school support staff who are interested in becoming licensed teachers.

During the session, attendees will receive information about BRTC’s education degree pathways, 2+2 university partnerships, scholarship opportunities, and financial aid. Individuals will also have the opportunity to meet with BRTC’s admissions and financial aid teams to receive assistance with applying to the college and completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The session will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the Richard Gaines Technology Building on the Pocahontas campus. Interested individuals have through May 28 to register for the event.

VP of Academic Affairs Presents at Crowley’s Ridge College

91�첥 (BRTC) Vice President of Academic Affairs Brad Baine recently visited Crowley's Ridge College (CRC) in Paragould. He spent his time talking with faculty, staff, and students, as well as presenting to students.

Baine presented to a few classes led by Dr. Treka Clark, and his conversations were centered around effective leadership and management of leaders.
